Does it make me any less cool (is that even possible?) that I love, love this song? Ok, I didn’t think so. Just checking.

I’ve been waiting for these fancy sink drainers to be for sale for ages now. [Yes, that’s just how lame I am. I bookmark sink drains that are just prototypes!] So when I saw they were finally for sale I clicked right on over. Only to see they are $100. Are you kidding me?! There are a lot of things I can justify in my crazy head - $160 cheese tasting classes? You betcha. $60 microbrewery beer? Sure. $80 poodle haircuts? Gladly. $100 sink drains? Nope.
Oh well, I guess we’ll be sticking with our current $7.95 OXO Sink drain. And I’m fine with that - thank you very much.

We’re experimenting with JasperCam while Thom’s traveling this week. For the most part he just rolls around and naps but it’s entertaining to me nonetheless. It’s the next best thing to having him at work with me.
The camera seems to stall out after about 4 hours so we need to do some QA over here…
[If you want to check out JasperCam you have to manually refresh the page to see the updates - it’s not streaming video quite yet.]

It’s been a hot summer!
Dirk and Jennifer came to New York and Dirk performed at Carnegie Hall. Holy crap, right? It was just as awesome as you imagine. No, more awesome.

[You can blame Thom for the super crap photo since our seats were far, far away.]
Jennifer and I looking super adorable.

But then again, when do we not?
As a point of reference - Jennifer and I in 2002.
Laura and Jon came to hang out while they were on the hunt for an apartment. They’ll officially be our neighbors in a week! And Jackie and Matt made it out a few times in between bar studying.
We celebrated 4th of July in Prospect Park - fueled by way too much sangria.
Thom and I pretended to be French at Bastille Day in Cobble Hill.
But it’s not over yet! And now that the backyard is tree-disaster free we’ll be making the most of the rest of it!

When you get married everyone asks the age-old question - “When are you going to have babies?” Which is hi-friggin’-larious if you know me. I always respond “Actually, we already have one. He’s awfully adorable and high maintenance.”
But, honey, I’ve changed my mind. We are adopting him.
And, don’t worry, you don’t have to feed him, walk him, or bathe him - I’ll take care of him!
[Yes, Jasper does have a middle name. And it’s Nigel.]

And I couldn’t be happier…
I first read about Melissa Plastic Dreams shoes (that sounds like a porno/fetish thing, right?) on Cool Hunting. But when we saw them in person at Epaulet in Brooklyn it was love at first sight. And they SMELL like bubblegum - intentionally. That’s my kind of company.
I got the Campana in silver (below) but I’m looking forward to adding to my collection…

After a bit of drama (ok, a three hour saga) we finally made it to Biwa for a vegetarian- friendly Japanese meal in SE Portland…
A full Portland account to follow when we return…

Despite the fact that Jasper will be turning 9 in November he still loves his toys. At the moment Egret is his toy of choice and he’s managed to de-stuff and remove most of the appendages.
Vicious, isn’t he? If he weren’t all of 6 lbs he might scare someone…

It’s always tough for us to go out of town without the little man. In fact, it’s hard for me to leave him at home each morning as I head off to work. Who wouldn’t miss this guy with such a snazzy haircut?
But it’s nice to know that while we’re on vacation in Portland he’ll be busy being spoiled by his great-grandmother. And, Thom’s working on something to make me feel better about leaving him at home on a daily basis. Big things to come, people!

On Tuesday we’re heading off to Portland for a quick break from reality. Things have been hectic here since… well, for a long time. It’s been a whirlwind of house-buying, vow-taking, job-leaving. And as I write this it’s 100 degrees in our kitchen (damn, central air is looking better every day).
One reason we’re excited about our trip is because we’re staying at the Ace hotel which boasts a coffee shop, photo booth and the art is nothin’ to sneeze at neither.
That there is Mr. Evan B. Harris and he’s reason enough for us to haul or sad, Brooklyn asses out to the west coast. Of course licking his artwork on the walls of the Ace Hotel may be the closest that we ever get to him. He doesn’t like people. But I’m ok with that, really.
PLUS Whitney and Jesse were at the Ace Hotel last week so if we’re quick we might be able to breathe the same air as them. Maybe even follow their footsteps through the hotel lobby in a totally non-stalkerish way.
And, besides the fact that Portland is a very cool city all around, it’s made exponentially cooler during our visit as it happens - just happens - to be the Oregon Brewers Festival. Microbrewery heaven.
Beyond consuming obscene quantities of coffee and beer anyone have any other ideas for what we can do while we’re there? [Don’t worry - only Thom will be drinking the coffee. We don’t need Jesse to lose her shit and think she could climb up that tree in the stairwell, now do we?]
