happy birthday, dean!

I was going to post a picture of birthday cake. But that didn’t seem very Dean. Dean is the king of pie. In fact, I’d like to think that Dean is solely responsible for at least 5 of the extra pounds I carry around on a daily basis.

And I’ll have you know - It. Was. So. Worth. It.

Happy Birthday to an extraordinary person. He can use all our birthday well wishes today!

[Hard to believe that the picture above is their first pie…]

limited wall space

Lately, Thom’s felt it necessary to remind me regularly that we will have limited wall space in the house [as if I didn’t know] and I need to be strategic in my artwork selections.

But it’s pictures like this that make me long for vast white walls to fill.

Another one via Dan.

This is one coat of the Jacobean/Ebony floor stain. They will be applying a second coat to make the floor even darker and then a satin finish for just a bit of shine.

I’m so in love. Who needs furniture?

I’m standing on a Flor tile sample - we brought a few over to choose the tiles that will go in the den.

[Tung - you ready to be Tom Cruise?]

Thanks to Glen I might just make it through. And thanks to Ben, I know Glen exists.

is she applying to college already?

I’m not quite sure how Sophie got so big, so quickly. [Wasn’t she just born?]

I remember loving to bounce in this contraption when I was little and it brings back sweet memories to see Sophie looking so adorable.

classing it up

Our floor - or lack thereof - was the primary pain point of our house. Choosing the stain and finish feels like a big, big decision. After a lot of reading and questioning friends and family for their advice we’ve landed on a pretty traditional mix of Ebony and Jacobean to get a rich, dark color.

It’s the one at the bottom there. Actually, that one is two coats which we’ll likely need.

Next up is deciding who glossy we go. Are we cool enough for a matte finish? I think not…
