big cheese

But a cheeto the size of a golf ball sounds awfully good [right now].

a little bit of fungus goes a loooong way

I almost forgot how much I like cooking while we were away from the house. With all sorts of good things in season it’s been so easy to find delicious things to cook. Like these King Trumpet mushrooms we picked up last weekend at the greenmarket.

Along with an enormous bundle of asparagus.

Prepared with a little caramelized onion, some rice and a touch of truffle oil.

exploiting our friends for all they’re worth

Jon and Laura have been experimenting with their pizza-making skills. FROM SCRATCH. It’s pretty freaking insane and, in true Jon and Laura fashion, heavily analytical. There was a lot of talk about the right amount of yeast, toppings, sauces…

All I know is it was tasty. And truffle oil should be illegal it’s so good.

happy birthday, dean!

I was going to post a picture of birthday cake. But that didn’t seem very Dean. Dean is the king of pie. In fact, I’d like to think that Dean is solely responsible for at least 5 of the extra pounds I carry around on a daily basis.

And I’ll have you know - It. Was. So. Worth. It.

Happy Birthday to an extraordinary person. He can use all our birthday well wishes today!

[Hard to believe that the picture above is their first pie…]

extra pep in my step

IMG00014

This week Polly and I have been on a juice cleanse - well for the last three days anyhow - and it’s been a really positive experience. At first we were going to sign up with Blueprint but then we went the more cost-effective route with purchasing the juices from Liquiteria. The juice has been delicious and for the most part I’ve felt full and energetic.

This might just become a regular occurrence.

not quite the clermont lounge

We met up with Whitney and Jesse at Les Enfants Terribles last week while they were in town for an event. As a side benefit, every time we see them we also get to meet more of their friends who always leave Thom with the feeling that we need to explore our inner creative selves. For example, check out Instant Dong.

Due to a ever-expanding crowd some of the boys ate standing up at the bar which allowed them to get in some extra dancing. Although not everyone was in the dancing mood. Despite appearances, Greta’s boyfriend wasn’t actually sleeping at the table.

Dancing with utensils not recommended at home.

I only included this picture to provide evidence of how close Jesse and I were sitting to the band.

Until next time…

in my next life i’m coming back as a pig

Specifically, a truffle-hunting pig.

The weekend before last Jon and Laura invited us over for a delicious brunch of white bean soup and truffled egg toast. Heaven.

After lunch we walked off a few of those calories in Fort Greene park.

Three day weekends are so perfect.

how am i supposed to feel special anymore?

Stephanie sent me a link to the New York Times article announcing the opening of Murray’s Cheese in several Kroger supermarkets. I’m not sure how I feel about Murray’s becoming a national chain. Although I guess that midwesterners should be allowed the pleasure of a good runny Camembert too.

More bothersome is the realization that if I had been frequenting Murray’s in 1991 I could have purchased it for $50,000. Sure I was 10 but even then I had a fine appreciation for all things stinky. Another opportunity missed.

honeydew dreams

Earlier this Summer Thom and I attended a little dinner party at Travis’ place. Or at least the place where he was housesitting. Sometimes it seems like everyone in New York is pretending they’re someone else. Me included.

This is us as Penthouse-owning classy acts.

With fancy green grape sangria:

Travis manning the grill:

A cute Black Hound cake from Dean and Deluca:

Travis made the most spectacular Tomato Honeydew Salad.

I had to try my own…
