After months of pondering and lusting after not-quite-right options, our coffee table is arriving tomorrow! In the end, due to the shape of the room, we had to prioritize the mobility and storage of this table over others. And, the fake-industrial look of this one will soften a bit the modern edge of the room.
Next - on to the office!
*By the way, I’ve never read The Economist in my life. More like a home for my collection of Us Weekly.

Considering the joy that this rug has brought to my life [And this is despite the fact that it sheds red hair everywhere. Seriously, we might as well live with Clifford.] I have no doubt that this bit of Amy Butler beauty would be just right for our bedroom.

Because I have an obsessive desire for uncluttered surfaces. [It’s my zen.] Or maybe because I’m just a horrible, evil wife. Regardless, I haven’t allowed a toaster oven into our house.
This means Thom’s forced to use the oven to toast his bialys to perfection. A baked good that HE WOULDN’T EVEN KNOW EXISTED IF IT WERE NOT FOR ME. I know, I know. It’s a waste of energy. But otherwise it’s a perfectly good method of toasting.
Perhaps a secret, hidden toaster cubby is the solution:

Our beautiful Lilac tree has bloomed this weekend. Because it only lasts for about a week we’re trying to enjoy it as much as possible.

GIMME MORE!
The chandelier is installed, baby! All we need now are the light bulbs and milk bottles. Please note how it floats elegantly beneath the ceiling like Marty McFly’s hoverboard.

The fireplace tiles go in. Some people out there are likely shaking their heads in shame that I ripped out the original tiles. Well, sorry folks - no shame here! Those were ugly and these are glossy and beautiful. [Claps to Thom for tracking the delivery man to Williamsburg to get my tile!]

This is the dining room fireplace in Ivory and the one on the Parlor level will be Silver Grey.

A few more pictures of the house from this past weekend. The final details are a little less dramatic when captured on camera so we have less to show. But there’s still a couple of good things coming this week.
The stairs only have one coat of paint on them but they’re already starting to look fabulous. I did my best impression of a Chanel model to really capture their true glory. Thom thinks the stairs just look crooked.

I made a few mistakes with the light fixture selections but nothing permanent. Most importantly, our fans are freaking gorgeous. There’s one of these on either side of the parlor floor - one of which was a gift from Thom’s parents and, come summer, I’ll know who to thank for the breeze.

Proving that the house is indeed over a hundred years old, there’s a few scary bits around. This mystery electrical box has looked like this basically since we moved in. And you wondered why we wouldn’t let you bring your children over?
The contractor has cleaned this up and capped it off - managing to [hopefully] make all outlets in working order at the same time.

Fireplace tiles, storm doors and other goodies to come…
